Tongaporutu on the west coast north of New Plymouth is home to three outcrops towering up out of the beach. They are called the ‘Three Sisters’. I deliberately went on a gloomy day as I wanted to capture the other worldly feel, and beauty, of the place – a dull, subdued light with heavy clouds (and rain at times) certainly helped! Access to the Tongaporutu beach and the three sisters is only at low tide but is a simple and short walk toward the river mouth and beach. Just south of Tongaporutu is another beautiful place – the White Cliffs. More on that another time…
